"Hattuša Virtual Environment" : an interactive virtual reconstruction of the central temple quarter as product and medium of archaeological research
My PhD dissertation describes conception, creation and analysis of an interactive virtual reconstruction of the central temple quarter of the Hittite capital Hattuša during the 14th century B.C.
On the basis of a discussion of its technological and theoretical conditions a phenomenologically oriented method of individual movement is developed to document the routes of movement and lines of sight of a spectator.
This allows new insights into the visual and topological structure of the area as well as interpretations regarding parameters of planning, sociocultural concepts and ritual activities of sacred architecture in Middle Hittite times.
